Goverment of India had asked RIM to reduce its data security standard from 256 bits to 40 bits so that Indian Intelligence sleuths can intercept the data transmitted from BlackBerry mobile sets.
This is like telling the neigbour to lock the doors with a low strength lock so that you can break in his home without much difficulty.
Now India is trying to increase its data security levels from 40 bits to 128 bits.
It is still a long way to 256 bits level.
